Ohana + the art of responsible travel
How we travel as guests, build chosen family, and leave places better than we found them.
“Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.”
Ohana means family in Hawaiian: the family you’re born into and the family you choose. It means we’re bound together, that we show up for each other and remember one another. As a value, Ohana is a circle of complete aloha, the outpouring of unconditional love. Our goal is to create Ohana together on every retreat.
Travelers, as guests
At DDY Travels, we travel as visitors to the magical places we’re lucky enough to see. We aim to travel responsibly, ethically and in partnership with the people and the land.
We plan our trips to be socially, ethically and ecologically responsible. We want to keep the places we visit beautiful and leave them even better than we found them.
Four promises we keep
Curiosity over comfort
We say yes to the market at dawn, the long bus ride and the dish we can’t pronounce.
Local hands, local hearts
Our guides, cooks, drivers and teachers live where we travel, and our money stays with them.
Small crews, sacred places
Small groups, real connection and room for every voice.
Yoga as a practice for life
It starts on the mat, then shows up in how we treat people, places and ourselves.
Pack like a guest

- Pack reef-safe sunscreen and a refillable bottle.
Spend like you mean it
- Buy from makers and women-run cooperatives.
- Hire licensed local guides.
- Ask before you photograph people. Always.
